Nandita Vij, a young woman from this city who is currently studying in France, has been presented the Daniel Pearl prize for excellence in journalism.
Pursuing a master's course in journalism from Sciences Po University, Paris, Nandita's article on the plight of women from Punjab who were abandoned by their non-resident Indian (NRI) husbands got her the coveted prize. She received the award in Paris.
The Wall Street Journal instituted the prize in collaboration with the Sciences Po University in memory of Daniel Pearl, the India bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal who was killed by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002.
She also did a diploma course in French.

In attendance were Raju Narisetti, managing editor, The Wall Street Journal Europe; Richard Descoings, managing director, Sciences Po; Jean-Claude Lescure, director, Journalism School; and Bernard Volker, executive director, Journalism School.
