China Earthquake Relief WALK
Dear All,
Many volunteers from all over the world are at the sites helping those
victims affected by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred on May
12th in Sichuan, China. While we cannot help them physically, we,
GBCCA, and other organizations in Boston are planning fundraising
events to offer our support.
GBCCA has held a meeting with your representatives of the GBCCA
groups/clubs on Saturday(5/17) night and another meeting with the
representatives from other Chinese community groups on Sunday(5/18)
night to discuss ways in making donations and the proposed "5/31 Walk"
event at Boston Common from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Two key items are
proposed in the meetings:
1. GBCCA
will take responsibility to collect your donations and
deliver your choices to Tzu-Chi or American Red Cross. Please write
your check to GBCCA/Earthquake Relief and show ' to Tzu-Chi (or
American Red Cross)' under memo. Hongyan Gao will collect them and
work with Daisy to take care of donations reporting. For tax
deductible purpose, a receipt will be provided for donations greater
than $250 (per IRS rule).
2. A '5/31 Walk' will be held at the Boston Commons from 10:00am to
2:00pm. A 3-mile walk from 10-12 follows by various performances from
11-2:00pm is planned. We are also expecting to complete all the paper
work and get our permit on Tuesday (5/20). LiJian, Hong-Lin and the
representatives of
GBCCA and other organizations are organizing a
"5/31 Walk" committee to work on the event details.
Please make your donations ASAP and register for the "5/31 Walk" to
join this charity event. For GBCCA, our preliminary goal is to raise
$100,000 for the earthquake victims. We will frequently report your
donations through the GBCCA web, www.gbcca.org, and deliver them to
the Tzu-Chi Foundation and the American Red Cross on 6/15.
In addition to the links below for those charity organizations, I have
also included 3 earthquake relief forms for your use. Your care and
love are what the victims are hoping. Let's contribute and participate
the "5/31 Walk" event.
Best Regards,
Wanchin Chou
