Now let me respond in English. When I began to learn English, I tried
English 900 and that is all. Almost all of my fellow students were working very hard to pick up a British accent, i.e., RP (Received Pronunciation). GA (General American [English]) was never popular among us. But VOA is more powerful than BBC and the USA attracts more Chinese students than UK does. So in last two decades or so, we have witnessed to the change that the wind started to blow in another direction. In a pluralistic world like ours, it is 'no good' for all Chinese students to speak English like Americans. In German, Amerikanisch is quite different from Englisch. Such a differnece is well perceived among many Europeans. But, alas! not so many Chinese can tell one from the other in whatever sense.
